SHAHZ
Anyone heard of SGS? http://www.sgs-engineering.com/garage-equipment/trolley-jacks/tjl2jsr-low-entry-trolley-jack-axle-stands Reviews seem ok and the price isn't too bad considering it includes stands too! Would 2 ton be sufficient for the 5 series? Anyone else recommend any other low profile jack?
Rich
I'd want something beefier to lift your cars. My old jack struggled to lift my Accord so had to replace it, see my thread here - http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=11747&page=1 Have you checked the minimum and maximum lift heights? I'd go for something like this - http://www.sgs-engineering.com/garage-equipment/trolley-jacks/tj3-garage-3-ton-trolley-jack Although I highly recommend the Arcan one from Costco
Tony
I would say it will do the job Shahz...... With the stands you only need to lift a corner at a time so 2ton is fine.
SHAHZ
The car weight is just under 1.6 t(kerb weight) / just over 2t (max weight)... Don't know what the difference is?! Do costco do a low profile Jack?
Tony
They must do....
Rich
Look on my link above the Costco one is on there. Where are the jacking points on the BMW? You need to measure the height to it as that jack you linked to doesn't go very high. The one I used before on the rear of the Accord didn't even lift it off the ground at max height! SHAHZ
Just been and they only have the low entry that Rich has. Tony you think I will need 3ton for the BMW given the weight mentioned above
Rich
The Costco one is fine for yours, you're only lifting one corner or axle at a time not the whole weight of the car. Do you have a garage or can you wheel the jack to where it's stored? A 3T jack will be so heavy you won't be able to carry it!
parthiban
Not sure about the jack but I recently bought a gas strut from SGS and the service was excellent.
SHAHZ
Haven't had the chance to get one, just ordered this beast http://www.sgs-engineering.com/garage-equipment/trolley-jacks/tj3lp-low-profile-garage-trolley-jack It's got good reviews, so hopefully it's decent! Rich
Where are you keeping it? It's heavy at around 8 stone so if you need to carry it that's going to break your back! Mine is just over half the weight and it gives my arms a workout carrying it to the shed!
SHAHZ
Will be in the shed, so will need to lift it one step up into the house and a step down back onto the drive.... Shouldn't be a problem.... He says
Rich
So you'll wheel it through the house? That'll go down well with the missus once it starts getting dirty! I could wheel mine up to the shed on the grass but when it's wet I don't want the jack getting ruined.
SHAHZ
Lool, tell me about it! I reckon i might be able to lift it through if i can get a good grip on it! Thankfully I paved the whole garden so no issues there
Tony
We use ones exactly like that Shahz
SHAHZ
We use ones exactly like that Shahz That's good to know, looks a good bit of kit and will get no where near the use you guys put it through, so should be set for life and for my boys Ordered yesterday around 3, had been delivered before I got home from dropping the kids at school! Picked up the box and it's more than manageable
Tony
As you know we need them low and with a small pad because most od the cars we work on had micro jacking points....
SHAHZ
What pads do you use Tony?

Picked up the box and it's more than manageable Picking it up and walking with it are 2 different things! I used mine this morning and was trying to imagine it being twice the weight. It should be fine but I wouldn't want to carry it for long. I want to extend the path up the garden but the missus ain't keen. Then she moans when I make a mud path in the winter going to the shed and back!
SHAHZ
Really p**sed, opened up the packaging today as I wanted to swap to the winter wheels to find this... Courier must have dropped it, didn't even bother taking it out of the box, have just contacted customer services via their website !! Rich
That doesn't look good, what a pain. Have they replied to you yet?
parthiban
Damn that's really annoying - although with all that polystyrene could just a drop have done that?
SHAHZ
Nothing yet, suspect I won't hear back till Monday! Given the weight, I'd say it could, can just imagine the delivery driver saying I'm not lifting that and pushing it out the van straight on to floor
SHAHZ
Well they picked it up and I thought I cant be bothered to go through that again and went and got an Arcan one! Used it today for the first time to take the 20s off. With the weather being so mild, I'll probably take the winters off as soon an I've had the rear 20 refurbed!!
