Sagitar
My archery club was shooting last Tuesday (as usual) behind the Cross Keys at Pulloxhill when some friends of the pub landlord dropped in for a meal, as you do, by helicopter. The landing was a bit dusty and the pilot must have commented because the pub staff hosed down the area before he took off again. Once the machine was settled, we got on with our archery and had no further interruptions for a while other than a Red Kite flying overhead and a bit too high to get a decent picture. Sometime later the visitors departed, ushered to their aircraft by the pub landlord who chatted while they started the engine. The landlord having departed, they revved the engines and gently lifted off with very little dust thanks to the hosing. a turn to the West and some friendly waves for yours truly Then off into the sunset. What a splendid way to travel!
Tony
Must be nice to have the money...... Question for you, is your camera set on a high shutter speed? And that bird, i have some around here and actually thought it was a type of Hawk but do they pray on other birds.
Sagitar
Good morning Tony. The usual wisdom for aircraft pictures is to use a shutter speed that is slow enough to show some movement in the propellor/rotor, but fast enough for a sharp picture of the airframe. These particular pictures were at about 1/150 of a second, but I was using aperture priority so they will vary. The Red Kite is a hawk. It generally feeds on carrion rather than being a predator on live animals, but it will take small mammals and birds. The wing and tail shape are very easy to spot and you will find masses of pictures of it if you google. Try http://www.redkites.net
Tony
Reason i asked is the blades are static...... As for the hawk once they appear around here all the other birds scatter like mad.
Rich
Apart from the last photo the blades are showing motion. Great photos We have loads of red tail kites around here, always when I don't have the camera out though.
