Looks stunning B)

Because of the variables there's no "out of the box" settings for any coilover.. Finding the best pre-load, damper setting and height will take some fiddling, a 1mm here and a click there will find the prefect set-up in the end.

On the BCR the pre-load and height are adjusted independently meaning pre-load won't effect the geo.

Yes but obviously you need to test the preload setting for a while before deciding if it's ok, what if you need to go back several times, is there a charge?

It looks like it's just a case of turning a nut so a home mechanic could do it as well, it would just take longer with no ramp. I can't hear the sound at work but how do you know how to set each one so they're all the same?

The car looks good mate, really aggressive :D

Is the bouncing when going over bumps and dips in the road, rather than smoothly going over them? Is the ride very firm? This sounds like what happened with S2IMs MX5 when the BCRs were fitted and that was down to the preload needing adjusting.

Cheers Rich, yeap it is bumps and dips in the road almost like driving continuously over a cobbled street, with my head bopping up and down!  When i got home yesterday, i turned the damper setting to soft 4 clicks all round; however it was rubbing on the bumps and whenever i went around corners, so this morning i went back a notch on the rears, its now a bit better but does stil rub on bigger bumps.

Driving to work today, I don't feel like im driving a slammed vdub bouncing around (if you know what I mean), its certainly not as bouncy and was much better.  I still feel like the rears need to go back a click or 2 to softer, but that will have to wait until the arches are rolled.

I called BC earlier and they recomend a preload between 3 - 5 mm, asked if they give a spocific figure and was told to just go in the middle, will see what I can find on the american forums as not many in the UK run the BCs on the E60.

What I have noticed is there is a bit of a rock back and forth when you come to a complete stop.....is this a pre load issue??

The trouble is tweaking the preload and ride height means repeated trips back to WIM, is this included in the original fitting price?

Im hoping that at my next visit for the fine tune, once the arches have been rolled, i can set the final ride height, but presume that it may need a little further adjustment to get it just right!

Not sure about the cost, however that has reminded me that I need to PM Tony about a query I have!

On the BCR the pre-load and height are adjusted independently meaning pre-load won't effect the geo.

So height adjustment affects the geo?  as we went up about 7mm on the rears after the geo was done?!

I saw that video the other day, again he states a preload of 4mm, might need to watch closley when i go back to see how to adjust and attempt it myself, problem is, as you say Rich, not having a ramp will make this much more difficult!

That's how the MX5 felt, on a rough road the ride was VERY bumpy! I would definitely say the preload needs adjusting.

With the height I think you can adjust it within a certain range before it affects the geo, more than 15mm I think is probably the cut off point - Tony?

That's abit cheeky with CK, why did they feel the excess had to be increased, I thought they were mod friendly.

So ive covered almost 500 miles since having the coils/wheels fitted on the weekend; must say that im noticing a massive handling improvement on the non runflats at speeds over 70; used to hate the feel of the car at high speeds on the run flats :)

Obviously the coils have improved handling and cornering, just not quite there with final set up yet!

  • 2 weeks later...

Had Phil from AE roll the arches earlier this week

Here's Phil at work

You can't really notice and difference, but there has been a slight pull on the arch...

Top geezer and his work is spot on, very thorough and explains what's he's doing every step of the way!

I've finally been able to have a little fun with driving the car, no more rubbing on corners and handling is so much better with the could but still not 100% on the BC set up, needs to come down a touch!
