  1. i really think that you need to drastically increase your forum members before you think about charging, as it will stay at around 240 for a long time otherwise. e.g. scoobynet has over 68,000 members and is free. A forum dedicated to a model of car has a pretty much captive audience, but for a niche subject (relatively speaking), you could only turn potential members and customers away, (i really don't think you should use the arcade as an enticement) People looking for this type of forum will have some sort of geometry issue and this forum is a good advertisment for WIM and the more people that join, and are aware of this forum, the better for WIM as a real world business (i.e. the actual geometry checks and adjustments at the WIM premises or approved centers) . I presume this proposed fee is to cover internet costs, well the only way i could see this being taken up without question is to offer a discount on a geom check for say the face value of the membership for a limited period of 3 or 6 months, i.e. a gold member gets £14.95 discount voucher off a geometry check if used within 3 or 6 months or even £10 off and a sticker pack (as suggested by ER). The platinum member gets a similar discount of £49.95 if used within the voucher period, and/or a similar sticker pack offer. This may sound like it is a lossmaker, but the amount of people who would take up the voucher offer would be relatively small (how many of the total members here have been in for a geom?), conversely, any geometry customers could get free or discounted membership to the WIM forum which could potentially promote the WIM brand further to their friends and family especially if sticker packs displaying the WIM web address are given out. Anyway, good luck.
  2. brings back memories of when i had an old '86 transit, i had just come of the dual carriageway after doing 70, whilst slowing for the roundabout, the balljoint parted and caused the bottom arm to hit the ground, causing the front wheel to wedge itself into the rear of the wheelarch, brown-trouser-time ...since then, it happened to my father-in-law 2yrs ago on his '87 transit based camper van. (he was crawling in traffic) so transit drivers, check your balls.
  3. probably because understeer is more predictable, and more easily corrected than oversteer for the un-wary or a-b drivers, and a safer design for the majority of the motoring public...
  4. i personally would not do this, as if you had an serious accident, your insurance upon investigation of the vehicle would more than likely refuse to payout, but if you do do this, put the smaller wheel on the non-driven axle (i.e. on the rear on the mondeo) as the resulting differences in rolling radius wouldn't be very kind to the diff (or the gearbox in your case)...
  5. in the bottom pic, the lowermost spring is incorrectly positioned allowing the outer caliper to move away from the disc..
  6. anything can be incorrectly or inappropriately fitted, if an officer thinks a whip aerial could cause danger of injury to a person, then it's reported as an offence, a whip aerial fitted to a roof of a lorry is probably fine, an aerial fitted to a wing of a car, for example on an angled wing allowing it overhang the edge of vehicle and possibly come into contact with other road users or pedestrians would be dangerous. how can an exhaust flamer be classed as a weapon, ( a weapon when not designed to be used in destroying, defeating, or injuring an enemy (gun, knife, sword etc) is only a weapon when used with intent. for example, a watermelon is not a weapon, but if it is deliberately used to injure, attack or maim, then it becomes a weapon.
  7. no law against fitting a spark plug into your exhaust, although if a flame is coming out of the exhaust like a flame thrower it will be an offence under section 40a of the RTA "Using vehicle in dangerous condition ". the same as whip aerials, sharp protrusions, loose bits etc etc.
  8. also note that most washing-up liquids contain a high degree of salt.
  9. commonly known as 'axle tramp or wheel hop', try different tyres, and or suspension improvements, also, apparently, worn engine mounts can exacerbate the problem . a little bit about the problem is posted here. http://www.superhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45157
  10. surely the difference would be negligable either way, now if, theoretically, the wheel was changed from a 10" (mini for example) to 20 inch rims (ok bear with me) keeping the original aspect ratio, then the discs would theoretically rotate at more or less half the original rate at any given road speed. so for stock pads this would surely be a good thing as the disc/pads will run cooler, but for race pads, it could possibly be a bad thing as perhaps the discs will not reach optimal temp.
  11. Continued:- So far we have Extreme lock RWD At speed Under braking Lets add Front engined Front Cambers at -1 degree each Rear Cambers at -30 minutes each What do you feel would happen to this car. dunno what the numbers mean, but the car looks unstable and possibly will, or already has entered a spin.

    Clonk, clonk

an easy way to remove a nut from a spinning shaft (this will only work if there is enough thread and if the nut is not seized, otherwise you'll risk damaging the remaining thread) is to screw on 2 nuts, lock them together, loosen the offending nut, unlock the locked nuts, tada.......only works with a spanner on the lowermost nut though, obviously...
