  1. what is the orriginal tyre size? 195/45x16 would be another size that could be fitted,
  2. i keep imajining them as the developer made the first set, bolted them onto a car, then when he twists the handle to let the jack down the tweel just collapses like it is made of sponge. i just have this picture of the blokes face all blank and he just says "ahh" maybe my mind is a wierd place full of odd stuff (how many other people transfer dvd's to betamax)
  3. i should think so, they only sit there rotting away never to be used,
  4. i know the answer for the new tyres would be a big fat no, as for the runners, i had a look through them the other day and the only matching set is 205/55x16 japaneese snow tyres, other than that they are tiny 175/65x14 and a few smaller ones, theres one 225/40x18 that has been repaired twice
  5. i wonder how they cope with hard corniering, braking and acceleration. pot-holes, curbs and stingers. i dont think i would want to have to replace a whole wheel at a time either. it's an interesting idea but i dont think it will catch on because i imajine it will be very expensive.
  6. i've often wondered this too, i thought it was to eliminate nose diving under braking afirst but then realised it doesnt matter where the caliper is its still stopping the same disc that is rotating the same way, so there must be another reason. maybe to clear other items such as steering racks? bmw and ford (sierra granada etc) have the racks at the front and the calipers towards the rear
  7. looks like the tyres may be made of solid plasic, ?
  8. i just put my foot down and turn in, the steer the other way to keep the car sideways.. i have to do it in the wet though through lack of power. sometimes it changes up a gear (automatic) and then the slide comes to a sudden stop when the tyres grip!!
  9. ahh missed the party.. did you play all the classic party games? pass the parcel, musical chairs, squeek piggy squeek.
  10. personaly i realy dont see the point of run on flat tyres. why not do what renault done with the laguna II and have presure sensors anyway so if a tyre looses more than 3 psi you get a visual warning and a beep, you then stop before a blow-out happens, put the spare on and go and get it fixxed. job done
  11. are all the wheels perfectly round? are they after market rims? if they are do they have the correct spigot rings fitted (to make the rim fit snug on the hub). is the vibration at high or low speeds?
  12. ours go into the back of a lorry never to be seen again!! 300 tyres a week we dispose of at about £1.00 each, i know most of them get shredded because the 8ply ones have to go on seperatly as thier shredder can't handel the re-enforcment. i surpose the rest go towards remoulds
  13. goodyear f1's are good i hear. a friend of mine is using bridgestone on his civic, mainly for 1/4mile use/street use and swears by them.
  14. i had to buy tyres a few weeks ago, i was driving home from work and could hear a clicking noise coming from the passenger rear, i thought it was a stone in the tread so i pulled into a layby, and had an m8 bolt (8mm thick) straight through the centre of the tyre. 2 new rear tyres please
  15. i wouldnt make a swing for kids from an avon, id be scared the tyre would fall apart.
  16. maybe he should raise the presure to maybe 40 psi, could be the heat from all that motorway driving playing havoc with his air presures. i take it he is using 'normal' air
  17. thats right, his last words.. "the car feels ok"
  18. did you know it was low tyre presure that caused ayrton senna's death?
  19. my point exactly, buy a skyline and insure it for 3 years for the same money! the bodyshop (not the skin care place) next door to where i work is constantly modifying bottom of the range cars. one that leaps to mind is a 1.2 corsa, now in T.V.R purple, with 19" wheels, there is no boot any more to make room for the wheel arches and the twin motorbike rear exhast boxes, th front wings (inner and outer) have been replaced with custom parts to make room for the front wheels, new golf head lamps have been grafted in. like marmite i supose you love it or hate it. personaly i think it looks rediculas, tiny brakes behind massive wheels, and a tiny engine under a bonnet that is a mass of vents.
  20. yes, our hunter machine always manages to make me grin regarding the expansion bar, the on screen instructions tell you to fit the bar before doing the run-out test. imagine rolling the car back as someone walks past. that bar hitting you in the temple wouldn't do you many favours.
  21. i know its not important but why did they bother to cut the spanner out. surely neither the tyre of the spanner are of any use now
  22. i work in a fast fit centre and i am amazed at the things that force their way through tyres, screws and nails are the obvious but, front door keys, drill bits, 240v mains plug, spoon, but the best was an 8mm steel rod that went through the tyre and then through the rim, punched a hole right through the alloy.
  23. for a fun evening of spot the worst mod i can strongly recomend southend sea front at about 10:00pm on a sataday night. the best has to be a v6 rear wheel drive mk1 fiesta. the worst, a saxo with over £20,000 worth of bodykit on a 1.1. i jokingly told his girlfriend it was a hefty deposit on a house, i think i opened a can of worms.
