  1. Well. Yesterday was the day to do the job. Aim: 1)remove low pressure fuel pump and syphon out of tank using a hose 2)Clear out fuel lines 3) replace fuel filter 4)put everything back together Expected duration 2-3 hrs.. Reality : 1) could not remove 160mm cap that secures low pressure pump in the tank. We spent hours trying to get it undone with a plethora of tools and different methods. Pro tip: spend the £15 and get the proper tool in advance. We ended up getting a small drill powered pump and sucking the fuel out the tanks pump.. It worked but boy it was slow... Time taken 1hr to empty just shy of 40 liters. 2) not as easy as I expected! Ended up doing this last by putting fresh diesel in the tank and using the priming pump to pull it through, took ages! 3) to get to the fuel filter, I only had to remove the battery, airbox, intake pipe, turbo intake pipe.... The fuel filter is situated on the engine bulkhead, so 3 very awkwardly positioned nuts were undone and filter removed... At this point we find out nissan sold me the wrong fuel filter... 1h round trip to the Nissan garage to get the right one and it fits. Re fit the filter, turbo intake pipe, airbox, battery and intake pipe... Primed the system and it started up no problem, checked all fittings for leaks ect and it all looked OK. Actul time taken... 6hrs! Can I get my day back please
  2. Why will it affect the cylinder head? Diesel engines are stronger than petrol due to higher compression rates
  3. Hi Tony. Petrol in a diesel is bad as it does not provide lubricant to the fuel pump
  4. They don't have cover and are not in the position to pay the £200 quoted. I offered to help them out and do it for them as I won't charge them
  5. Well some friends / neighbours of ours dropped me a message last night asking for advice... Apparently he put around 7 liters of petrol in to his wife's diesel Nissan note, this equates to around 17% of the tank capacity. He realised his mistake and brimmed the tank with diesel. What makes things worse is that he drove it home as he panicked! I'm after some general advice on what to do next. Shall I remove the fuel pump and use some clean hose to try and syphon as much of the fuel out the tank as possible, once the majority of the diesel is out I was thinking of dropping the tank to get as much of the contaminated fuel out.. I guess also to drain the fuel lines too. A fuel filter change is probably worth a shot too... Would you guys suggest anything else? Reading online it seems that this much fuel in the tank could really screw the fuel system.. But I'm hoping they are more horror stories than true or they will have an expensive issue on their hands

  7. Out the side for noises.. Press a button that shuts the valve to those, and exhaust gasses run through the normal route.. I. E mufflers and out the back.

  9. I didn't realise the v8 twin turbo was unreliable. I knew the v6 TT was a solid lump. What do the v8s suffer from?

  14. I can see damage, Follow the Renault badge straight down, between the rear wing and the floor looks to either be a bit of body or wing mirror... Car would be moving left to right looking at the dirt movements

  16. When wheels have been stuck for me I undo all the nuts 2 turns then lower the car. The weight of the car on the wheel normally unseat the wheel from the hub. Jack the car back up and then remove all the nuts. If extra persuasion is required, whilst the car is lowered with weight on the wheel, give it a kick or wobble the car and that's been enough to do it. (above has always worked for me, but only had to do it on 2 cars)

  18. Wowser, I wonder what did that and how. Normally to do that it requires tremendous shock loading

    Mx-5 advice!

    It's a nice car but on the advice above and a bit of digging... I have said no to the seller. Basic analysis came up with 600-1000 to get the rust sorted, 400 for a set of tyres, and budget of 400 again for other bits, battery, wipers and other stuff... I'm looking at between 2.4k to 2.8k for a toy... For 2.5k-3k there are nicer cars out there!
  22. I think black looks best. Maybe clean the black up and treat it with a plastic cleaner and it should look much smarter

    Mx-5 advice!

    Roof is new ish, all tyres are flat due to being in storage for 18 months. I was a little worried about the rust and was budgeting about 600 for repair... They were pretty strong about not taking less than 1k due the roof and other bits being so new

    Mx-5 advice!

    I'm looking at getting this mx5 as a toy. Owner wants about £1k for it, but it does need work. I know next to nothing about these cars so advice from you lot is sought after. I have attached some pictures... Rear arches and bits of the cill needs some welding... So no idea how much that will cost either!
