Tony Scott
I have a 2007 MX5 mk 3 with standard 16" alloys. I plan to use the car at weekends and the occasional track day. Can you advise on the best option and price. Thanks
Rich
I think you will need to read reviews (try tyre reviews) and form your own opinion on what you might like, it's a very subjective area. You could end up hating what some people recommend, it's happened to me before. How much tramlining can you cope with it? I hate the feeling and asymmetrical tread patterns are the worse for this, directional aren't as bad and symmetrical is the best option. The asymmetrical pattern will give you the better grip though so it's a compromise and I prefer to use directional when I can. As it's a weekend and track day car I assume tyre wear isn't a big concern as you won't be doing the mileage. So a tyre with a softer compound will give better grip but won't last as long. I have Toyo T1Rs on my MK2 (15") and they're very grippy in the dry but not so good in the wet. I think they're a good tyre yet lots of owners don't seem to rate them. Tony
Tyres are a very personal thing, i assume your on the Bridgestones now which are a hard compound so any move to a medium compound would suit but which ones is a hard call. Tony
In the past i've noticed the cheaper range of tyres have worked the best overall.
