hms
Lazza, Sean and I took the Hornet to Stowe today for a Lotus on Track day. Day started out wet and slippy, and the left/rights at the back of the circuit were pure understeer. Sean managed ot outbrake himself at the end of the back straight, and had to use the run off, lucky it was there! At one point I braked for the chicane at the end of the start/finish straight and managed to lock all 4 wheels up! The afternoon session was dry, the wind had blown the dampness off the track, the whole bottom of the course was by throttle only, apart from one dab to settle the car, no brakes needed after the turn in at the end of the back straight! You could throw the Hornet into the corner and it went. brilliant. On my last go first lap out an Elise decided it wanted to go into the kitty litter, course red flagged for recovery, whilst back in the pits, I was told that a Marshall had seen a 4" bolt drop off the Hornet, I wouldnt be allowed out until the car was sorted and safe. We jacked the car up, couldn't see anything, the Marshall brought the bolt in, didn't look like something off the Hornet, not rusty enough! We heard an elise was having problems with a loose alternator so we assumed it was his, the Marshall must have seen me kick it up as I ran over it. Anyway, last few laps were done with a little restraint, just a little, in case a wheel or something fell off, but no problems. All in all, a great day, well organised by LoT, great bunch of people ro drive with, and the Hornet, what can I say, she's a brilliant little car. :bananapopcorn: I'll see if there is some video to post. Tony
Reads like a hoot.... Shame wim cannot be mobile since there are different chassis positions for damp/ wet/ dry, whereas you guys have to run a dry set-up as a coverall. hms
Or we could just book dry track days! Anyway, it's all good learning as we cannot drive in the dry all the time! H
Tony
Absolutely agreed, it's just a shame i cannot give the team the best from the chassis during these events....
rooflessdriver
Sorry for the delay in adding my tuppence but the rest of my weekend went downhill after Sat. As Howard mentioned, the Hornet proved itself during the day and was amazing to drive. The morning session was 'fun' in the wet, and then after a passenger ride with Lazza (The Stig!), I watched his lines and then came back grinning in the afternoon sessions. Now I am no seasoned track day driver but when I had an Elise following me round for 4 laps, leaving it for dead in the corners, and then it powering up behind on the straight but not close enough to pass before next bends, it says a lot about the Geo setup & Suspension. The elise driver got so frustrated they finally blatted past me on the short start finish straight then overshot the chicane! We are now wondering if the bolt that howard mentioned actually was one of the Hornet's as I had a 98 mile drive back with screeching belts everytime I pulled away. However, steering was fine & no battery light so maybe not powersteering pump or alternator bolt?
Tony
Reads like a fun day with the Hornet at her best..... Odd about the bolt but as said i doubt it's from the Hornet.
