Rich
Just received the V5 for the Lexus and the dealer has put my name down as the registered keeper! I told them several times the missus name is going on there! I've tried phoning the DVLA and I just get a standard message about changing the name on the form. I can't actually get through to speak to someone. What I want to know is can I change the name without it affecting the number of registered keepers? I think I also need to tell the insurance company as the missus is down as the registered keeper.

Rich
Yeah I think I'll do that. I emailed the DVLA using their form and that comes back with a computer generated reply. There is a link to reply though asking for more information.

Rich
I've sent it back with a letter so will see what they say. I'm not sure whether to tell the insurance or not, I suppose it's better to be safe than sorry, although I can't really see it making a difference if a claim was made. Tony
I doubt if the insurance is affected registered keeper or not.

Rich
Too late I've already sent it back. I emailed the guy who sold me the car on Wednesday but had no reply yet. He was also meant to be sending me a handbook, which I've still not had!
Tony
Seems like they don't care now you've bought the car
Rich
It does seem that way, which is a shame as the reviews for the dealer are very good. I'll give him until next week, he could be off for a few days.
NickT
Have you tried phoning them?
Rich
Not yet, I've mainly been dealing with them via email so I have a 'paper' trail but I'll ring them if I get no reply this week.

Good idea to do this but I generally call to get things moving quickly and send a follow up email after every call summarising what was discussed. Rich
I got a reply this evening, he had been off He said the best thing to do is send it back to the DVLA with a letter like I have, otherwise it'll just prolong it sending it back to them first. Handbook is in the post
Rich
Just an update. I got a letter back from the DVLA last week and they said they need proof of insurance to consider changing the name. I emailed them this but as we took the insurance out a week after buying it they wouldn't accept it. The date my name was put on the V5 was when we viewed the car and agreed to buy. I have now got to get a letter from the dealer saying it should've been in the missus name, not mine and it was their mistake. I emailed the guy at Lexus but had no reply, phoned up and he's got a few days off so someone else is going to try and sort it out for me. What a faff! Otherwise they will only change it by adding another new keeper. Also the handbook went missing in the post so I'm waiting for another one!
