Tony Scott
I have a standard mx5 1.8 that I use at weekends and the occasional track day. I would like to lower the ride height a little and improve the handling. Are Gaz coilovers the only way to? How much do they cost, supply, fit, geometry? Appreciate any advice. Tony
Hello Tony We no longer deal with GAZ so i can't help you there. Our main line now is BC Racing which are more expensive than GAZ but are more adjustable and come with top mounts.... Question though, it reads like you only going to lower the car a little in which case why not go for the cheaper option and fit lowering coils? Tony Scott
Tony thanks for the prompt reply. The shocks on the car are old / standard, is there an option to replace the shocks, springs and do geo? I'm not planning to heavily modify the car, I don't need adjustable dampers just a reasonable, cost effective fast road setup.
Tony
The GAZ coilover bought direct are around £550+ i think then there's two hours fitting at £70+ vat ph and the geometry at £95+ vat. The BCR is top dollar at £800 but as said with mounts and more adjustable.
Tony Scott
Thanks Tony,I cannot put £1000 into the car its not worth much more than that.would the car benefit from a geometry setup alone? The shock and springs are sound just old. Last question won't bother you anymore. Tony
Funky
Hey Tony. Have you looked on MX5Parts? They have a few cheaper options on there. http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/koni-strt-street-performance-suspension-tuning-mk1-p-1578.html http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/vmaxx-adjustable-height-coilover-mk1-p-2916.html You still need to factor the cost of labour unless you could do them yourself. Then take to WIM for set up.
Tony Scott
Thanks Funky. Had looked at the Koni Street kit but doesn't seem to be a lot of positive feedback on it.
Tony
Koni are very hard and the Vmaxx are very poor quality, in fact the box they come in weighs more than they do.
