Me

I have a puncture that needs fixing

Not a problem, which one on the car is it?

It's the spare now

Unfortunately sir this tyre is scrap

Why?

Well it's been driven on flat

No it hasn't!! I found it flat when i came out of the shop

Well it must have gone flat on the way to the shops?

No it didn't, i know what it's like to drive on a flat tyre and this one definitely wasn't flat!

Nevertheless i cannot repair this tyre

Why is it illegal?

No but most of the sidewall is missing where it was driven on flat

IT WAS NOT DRIVEN ON FLAT!!"

Ok then, the sidewall has fallen off

How could that happen?

Driving on it flat

I DID NOT DRIVE ON IT FLAT, HOW MANY TIMES DO I NEED TO TELL YOU!! i think your just out to sell me as new tyre?

Well like i said the tyre is not repairable

So you won't do it then

No

Fine....... I'll go elsewhere and get it mended

Best of luck

Yep..... He could see the damage but was stuck in the opinion the tyre wasn't driven on flat so must be repairable, the actual visible damage seemed to be out of his line of sight....... It's F :censored: D sir didn't seem to gel

This is a joke right, he knew the tyre looked like that yet is seriously going to take it elsewhere to get it repaired? :censored:

Nope, for real. He was so adamant he hadn't driven on the tyre when flat, the visible damage was in his opinion beside the point. He was convinced we was pressure selling him a new tyre..... Very strange and if i'm honest i'm glad he decided to go elsewhere.

Possibly because this guy is clearly really stupid it might have been better to avoid the "you've driven on flat" argument and say we can't repair this because the sidewall is torn to shreds! But either way probably wouldn't make any sense as he's clearly dillusional............truly unbelievable........

Welcome to the public arena, the owner wanted a solution we couldn't offer, in addition he was not receptive of the cause or solution. Visible logic in respect for the tyre condition seemed to overwhelm facts?

Sometimes there's a need to shake your head and think "WTF" and simply deal with it.

Wow! thats scary, that people would actually want to put a tyre like that back on the road. you should start a new section on the forum with the title "dumbest drivers ever" a picture of the offender and the tyre, and a brief explanation as to why they are so dumb. But is this case just the 2 pictures will do.

Crazy!! :censored:

I have to be careful about identity in HOTW, but i agree it's hard to comprehend how anyone could think that tyre is repairable, as said i think the owner was blind to the reason because he was so adamant he hadn't driven on the tyre when flat.

I understand what you say Tony, in my opinion people like that should be named and shamed. But it’s not in your interest to do so. I fully understand.

You helped me out once with a wheel alignment problem on a Golf 4 motion, when you where hosted on NTL, and with your expert advice, and emails all totally free I might add, I ran rings around the VW dealership, so much so they had the car for 2 weeks, having been given a curtsey car also for the time, being passed from one dealership to the other to finally realise that the rear passenger wheel had too much toe in.

How no wheel alignment centre could spot this was unbelievable? (Would explain why this tyre had beads of rubber on it all the time)

VW manchester had settings for a VW Caddy on the paper work????, the back end on a 4 motion is totally different, need I say more from a Dealership that charges in excess of £100 p/h for labour.

I even went to the trouble of asking the dealership how they actually used there equipment and got shown around the equipment. All was top spec computerised equipment, but no one had a clue how to use it obviously. ^_^

I went to all sorts of so called performance centres that specialised in Vw`s, non had a clue, but took the cash for the work.

Finally after waiting 2 weeks, they found a dealership (VW Stockport Manchester) who finally found the problem.

I can’t thank you enough for your help, free advice and time, and would recommend you 110% to anyone with wheel alignment problems.

I don’t know of any wheel alignment centre that has the knowledge of Tony Bones, This guy should be knighted.

Thanks again Tony.

Your original post was made all the better because you get to the end of the whole conversation before seeing the photo. Classic!
