Rich
The Civic has had the Uniroyals since the P6000s were replaced and they're good tyres, especially in the wet. They do wear quickly though and according to the ratings aren't great for saving fuel. Two of the tyres need replacing on the summer wheels so I've been reading reviews for some in our price range, £50 inc fitting. The Falkens seem to get alot of good reviews with some saying the performance drops in the colder months but that won't be an issue as they're only for the summer. Does anyone have any experience of these tyres or used both so can compare? Obviously they will behave differently depending on the car/driving style but a general opinion would be good. At £40 delivered each the Falken seems a good choice
Tony
Is the 914 asymmetrical

liner33
We put ze914 on our Superb , was very impressed , felt as good as Eagle F1's to me
Rich
I don't get the performance ratings? You can see them here - http://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=110&cart_id=59732960.110.17705&sowigan=So&Breite=195&Quer=60&Felge=15&Speed=H&kategorie=6&Marke=Falken&ranzahl=4&tyre_for=&x_tyre_for=&Herst=Falken&rsmFahrzeugart=ALL&search_tool=standard&Label=C-B-70-2&details=Ordern&typ=R-212607 We put ze914 on our Superb , was very impressed , felt as good as Eagle F1's to me Sounds good, I've never used the F1s but I think they wear quite quickly, did the ZE914 last longer? liner33
Weren't on long enough to say really only did about 9k on them , would get twice that out of front f1s
adam_r
I have the kumho ecowing es01 on the corolla and i really rate them. I ran the 914s on my accord and hated them. They gave little warning of traction loss, poor feedback, lack of grip... Hated them. I much preffered the vredestien ultrac sessantas but they only lasted around 20k with my lead right foot
Tony
The F1 was not suited to the rear of a FWD car.... They would heel-and-toe like a bugger..
Rich
The Vreds on the Accord are only going to last 8-9k miles. Great tyre but the wear rate is terrible. I think we'll try the Falkens this time and see what they're like. I don't usually like asymmetrical tyres but in this width trammlining shouldn't be that bad. Tony
To us the 912 was fire and forget and the 914 is born from that success so it's worth a punt.
chrisgixer
I found the 912 shockingly unstable after a third of the thread had gone. Zero directional stability, like driving in a constant cross wind, with water baloons for tyres. Horrid on omegas mostly. But midrange grip levels, with a quiet and comfortable ride quality. No experience of the newer Falkens though. Not likely too either ;D
Rich
The Omega is a heavy car compared to a Civic though, which is also on 15" wheels so I'd imagine they behave alot differently. The P6000 alot of people hate but I have found them to be ok, the Civic came with 4 of them.
Tony
The P6000 was good in it's day and an approved Jag tyre but things have moved on since then.
Rich
For anyone who's got the Falkens how bad is the tramlining with them? Putting the Vreds back on the Accord has made me realise how much I hate asymmetrical tread patterns and always having to correct the steering when driving on uneven road surfaces. The missus noticed this as well and I don't want to fit these to her car and she hates them. Obviously with a 225 wide tyre it's more noticeable than a 195 so they might be ok? parthiban
I always thought that directional tyres were worse for tramlining?
Rich
I've never had issues with directional tread patterns, only asymmetrical. I found an old thread of mine - http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=5722 I guess the only real way to finding out is trying them. Tony
I always thought that directional tyres were worse for tramlining? Any continuous radial band will tend to tramline. Add to that a low profile and then XL/ reinforced or RFT then it's amplified ten fold.
liner33
Thats why they put the band on the tyre isnt it , high speed stability ?
Rich
Can you tell by looking at a tread pattern whether it might causes tramlining or not?
Tony
Thats why they put the band on the tyre isnt it , high speed stability ? Yep but the effect differs between tread pattens.
Tony
Can you tell by looking at a tread pattern whether it might causes tramlining or not? I would say yes looking at that example.
Rich
What makes you say yes, the centre band of tread?
Tony
Well there's three nearly continuous radial bands. Most tyres only have one.
Rich
The Uniroyal doesn't have any bands on it and it doesn't tramline at all, maybe it's better to stick with what we've used? The reviews for grip are as good as the Falken.
