Sagitar
I offered some time ago to create some examples of the application of film simulation as featured in Fuji cameras. The XT1 that I use lists eleven film simulations, six colour and five monochrome. I'm dealing with the colour options in this post and will pick up the monochrome options in another post. Fuji claim that the menu options create simulations of films that Fuji sell or have sold for use in film cameras. The options are available in the first level menu on the camera and it is pretty simple to switch between them at any time you choose. I'll list the title of each option together with a brief description of the characteristics that Fuji claim for the option and then give an example of the output given by the option. STANDARD PROVIA - a general colour film suitable for a wide range of subjects. VELVIA VIVID - a vibrant colour film suitable for landscapes and nature photography. ASTIA SOFT - softer colour and contrast for a more subdued look. Classic Chrome - soft colour and enhanced shadow contrast for a calm look. PRO NEG HI - ideal for portraits with slightly enhanced contrast PRO NEG STD - ideal for portraits with soft graduations and skin tones.
Sagitar
There are five monochrome simulations available and I will set them out in the same fashion as I did with the colour options above. B & W - BLACK & WHITE - a straightforward imitation of a black and white film. MONOCHROME + YELLOW FILTER - imitates the use of a black and white film with a yellow filter on the camera - slightly enhances contrast and darkens skies a little. MONCHROME + RED FILTER - imitates the use of a black and white film with a red filter on the camera - enhances contrast and darkens skies considerably. MONOCHROME + GREEN FILTER - imitates the use of a black and white film with a green filter on the camera. Gives pleasing skin tones in monochrome portraits. SEPIA - imitates the use of a sepia film. parthiban
That's awesome that those are available directly in the camera, nice little feature!
Rich
Thanks for taking the time to do this Sagitar The classic chrome makes the flowers look dead. I definitely need to have a play with the presets in my camera to see how they compare to my PP.
