Rich
The first outing with one of my new lenses, really impressed with it. Redwings is a horse, pony and donkey rescue home for abused animals.

Rich
Should be sharper now, I've embedded my flickr photos, the forum seems to compress the uploaded ones.
Sagitar
Good effort Rich. I've always found horses very difficult. They don't look at their best with their heads down and in groups they can give you very random spacing. The light wasn't great for you and because horses are so big they need a lot of depth of field i.e. bright light and small lens apertures. I particularly liked the first one, that skin patch makes it look very vulnerable. I liked the seventh one too, very nice facial expression. Small shows and gymkhanas are a bit easier. If you approach owners and offer them a print they will often be amenable to "parading" their horse for you, so you get a chance to take them posed as you want them

Yes not many of them would put their heads up or if they saw me they turned away, it was almost like they knew I was trying to photograph them! It had been raining all morning and when we went in the afternoon was just solid cloud so no the light wasn't that great. I'm sure we'll go again next time we're up there. There were lots of vulnerable animals there, some have been treated appallingly and some you have to be careful of as they will try and bite if you get too close. The 7th photo, he was curious what I was up to so came over to see me, I think it's a great expression. The missus loves horses, she used to ride them and worked in stables as a teenager until one chucked her off and she did her back in. I'm not bothered either way but maybe going to a show will be a good photo opportunity, at least she wouldn't be bored!
